Ends with nobody hurt

ALANSON, MI --

An Emmet County man is undergoing a psychological evaluation tonight after an armed standoff with state police and deputies that lasted several hours.

The sheriff tells 7&4 News that this all started when a state police trooper pulled over a woman who was speeding up I-75 in Roscommon County.

During that stop they learned she was on the way to see her husband in Alanson who she thought may be suicidal.

She led officers to the man's home, and when they got there they saw him with a knife and learned he also has a sawed off shotgun.

State police and sheriff's deputies set up a perimeter around the home and called in a tactical team.

Alanson Public Schools was put on lockdown during the incident.

"After that was done, we evacuated the neighborhood and a daycare, and we called in an emergency response team to attempt to contact the guy, we had a staging area at the Alanson Fire Department and everything was in place. This individual decided to come out of his house at that time, he was taken into custody at that time, nobody was hurt," explained Sheriff Pete Wallin of the Emmet County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbors returned home and the lockdown was lifted around 2-30 this afternoon.

The sheriff says the man is still in custody tonight and is undergoing a mental evaluation.
