TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- With inches of snow finally on the ground, crews have been hard at work all week grooming the Vasa Pathway.

"What we're working on now is packing the snow and rolling it in so that we can build a base for future grooming," said Roger Raehl.

Grooming crews said this has been an unusually late start to the nordic ski season. Those who use the trail have been chomping at the bit to get out and stretch their legs.

"This year its better late than never. it's the first time in ten years we have not been able to ski in December," said Bud Huber.

Right now, Vasa has about two inches of base built up. Grooming crews say it is enough to ski on but more snow is needed before the big Vasa race in February.
