BEULAH (AP) -- A tentative settlement has been reached involving an inmate death in Benzie County.

Federal Court records in Grand Rapids show the settlement with Benzie County officials was reached Tuesday with the family of a man who hanged himself in a jail cell.

Edward Baughman was found dead in his cell in 2009.   A lawsuit states jail officers failed to give Baughman his medication for depression.  Court records also show the jail staff was accused of not regularly monitoring the 49-year-old despite knowing that he could be a risk to himself.

The settlement still needs to be approved by Benzie County Commissioners. No other details were disclosed.
