MANISTEE -- A bridge in Manistee will close for the second time in recent months as the second phase of construction continues.
The Maple Street bridge shut down for a few weeks in October, 2011 to begin repairs. Mechanical equipment in the bridge house was replaced including its motors, brakes, tail locks and upgrades to the concrete.
Starting Wednesday, January 11, 2012 the Maple Street bridge will again close to traffic until late March. The bridge will not open for boat and freighter traffic. Officials are warning drivers to plan on using the U.S. 31 Memorial Bridge while the construction is underway.
