TRAVERSE CITY -- The Alert Cab Program is helping  revelers ring in the New Year safely.

Restaurants and bars around Traverse City and Cadillac will provide a confidential phone number to people who they think may be too drunk to drive.

Alert Cab has helped thousands get home safely since it first began in 1986.  This year, Cherry Capital CabCeltic ShuttlesChippewa Cab and Cadillac Cab will provide the rides.

The program is made possible with partnerships between Budweiser and H Cox and Son.  Alert Cab will be available from 6 p.m. on Dec. 31 through 4 a.m. on Jan 1.
