Cheers to the new beer law
TRAVERSE CITY -- Michigan Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation to help local breweries expand.
The old state law put a cap on beer production.
Last week lawmakers removed the limit to give those types of businesses the opportunity to grow and increase sales.
Russell Springsteen, the owner of Right Brain Brewery says, "You're seeing these companies growing very quickly, but if you cap them then what good does that do to Michigan."
Springsteen says it will impact large breweries like Bell's who is preparing for a multi-million dollar expansion this year.
As for Right Brain, the amendment gives the business the freedom to expand. Springsteen says he plans to move Right Brain into a larger building over the next few months and hire an additional ten to twelve employees.
According to the Brewers Association, Michigan ranks 14th in the nation when it comes to breweries per capita.
There are 85 breweries in the state.
