CRAWFORD COUNTY -- If you noticed a rotten egg smell in the air Saturday morning, it was due to a natural gas leak in Crawford County.

The leak resulted from a failed valve at a gas well located in Beaver Creek Township, just south of Grayling. The leak was fixed but the smell was noticed as far away as Petoskey and the Mackinac Bridge.

It's not known how long the gas leaked from the well which is owned by BreitBurn Energy Partners. Spokesman Greg Brown says the hole where the leak occurred was less than a quarter-inch in size.
