YMCA needs $1.5 million in ten days
TRAVERSE CITY -- The new Grand Traverse Bay YMCA could be built this spring, but to make that happen they donations fast.
Earlier this year the project was half way to raising the $12 million dollars needed to break ground, but now they have a prime opportunity to get the rest.
An anonymous donor pledged $2 million dollars to the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA if the club raises a remaining $4 million dollars by the end of the year.
So far the YMCA has raised $2.5 million of that, a huge mark, but there's still a long ways to go in just ten days.
Tom VanDeinse, the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA CEO says, "If you would have told me a couple months ago we have only $1.5 million to go, I wouldn't have thought that was possible. So yes, I definently think all things are possible. We know we can do this."
If the group meets their goal, they'll start construction this spring with the first phase, The Aquatic Center. It will include a six lane competitive pool, splash pad, hot tub, and lap pool. The first phase also includes a fitness center and indoor tennis courts.
VanDeinse says its important to remember that money from donations don't have to arrive by December 31st, it just has to be pledged by then.
The new building will be located on Silver Lake Road near West Middle School.
