TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City dog owners will soon have a place to let their canine companions run leash-free.

The Traverse City Commission gave approval for the bark park Monday night.  The dog park will be located on city land at Division and Bay Street.

The next step in the process is renaming the park, which will be discussed at the Traverse City Parks and Recreation meeting in January.  Public input on the park plans and a timeline will be put into place at the meeting as well.

The cost of the dog park is estimated to be between $10,000 - $15,000, which is all being provided by private donors.

The Parks & Recreation meeting will take place Jan. 5 at 6:30pm at the Governmental Center in Traverse City.
