Local schools allow Tebowing
TRAVERSE CITY -- NFL football star Tim Tebow has made headlines for the move, a display of his devotion to his Christian faith. It's called Tebowing, and its spreading into schools across the country.
Students at a New York High School have been flagged with a penalty for paying tribute to Bronco's quaterback Tim Tebow. It was all caught on video, and landed them a one day suspension for creating a hazard.
Students athletes at Traverse City Christian Schools say they also look up to Tim Tebow and his strong faith.
Peter Galloup, a senior at the school says, "There is a lot of pressure to act a certain way as a pro football player to make a lot of money, have beautiful women follow you everywhere, and drive a nice car, but its good to have a person stand up for what he believes."
Craig O'Connor the Development Director at the high school says its actually not allowed during athletic events in Michigan because of a rule against celebrations, but his students are often seen privately praying in the hallways during school.
O'Connor says, "It's not discouraged, but its not something we see boys and girls doing. They can show their faith very openly here, so they dont have to pray undercover."
Traverse City Area Public Schools also would allow Tebowing in the halls as long as students are not disrupting class.
O'Connor says, "It can take on a life of its own and become a mockery and that is not what we want."
Whatever you might think of it, Tebowing will probably stay popular as long as the young star continues his miraculous winning ways on the high profile fields of the NFL.
