LEELANAU CO. -- A soldier from Leelanau County is back in the U.S. after being seriously injured while fighting in Afghanistan.
Pfc. Ryan Paulton's family tells 7&4 News that Ryan was riding in a heavily armored Stryker transport vehicle when a bomb went off, throwing him out of the vehicle.
The explosion happened on December 7. Ryan suffered severe injuries to his spine as well as cuts to his face and other broken bones. He arrived back in the U.S. Tuesday night and is being treated at an Army hospital in Tacoma, WA.
Pfc. Paulton is a 2007 graduate of Leland Schools.
