KALKASKA, MI -- UpNorthLive's Facebook fans voted to hear more about a local use of disc golf to help raise money for local charities.

K-Town Ice Bowl is a disc golf tournament played in the snow in January that helps raise money for local Kalkaska charities.

This year, organizers hope it's bigger and better than ever.

For 20 bucks or a donation of 30 pounds of non-perishable foods, you can play disc golf while raising funds and collecting foods for local charities like meals on wheels and the food pantry.

This year's event happens on January 15th.

"I thought it was a great thing to help out our local charities, and it certainly has been, yeah, a lot of fun, and it also does great things for our community," said organizer Eric Lucyk.

"The $1,805 they brought into the "Meals on Wheels" program provided that much more food and services that we were able to provide," said Kalkaska Commission on Aging Director Gay Rowell.

Last year, 64 people played and they raised $1,805 and 300 pounds of food to go to the local pantries.

So far this year, 50 are signed up to play, and they're looking for more.

If you're interested, there's a couple ways you can sign up.

E-mail organizer Eric Lucyk at erlucyk@hotmail.com or give him a call at (231)590-3149.
