Sweet tooth saves soldiers

If you were held up in the post office line today on barlow in Traverse City know that it was for a great reason, as twenty six boxes were being sent off to soldiers as a part of the Touching Hearts Adopt A Soldier program.

1,800 pounds of goods, from tooth paste to cribbage games, were sent to Afghanistan for Christmas and will be distributed to nearly one-hundred and sixty soldiers.

Touching hearts simply wanted to make their time a little easier while over seas -- they never dreamed they may be saving lives.

"We have found that in the past we have sent some of the soldiers large bags of candy and they've been passing them out to the kids and then the kids tell them where the IUD's are hidden in the roads. So, that has been a plus on both sides."  Said Marilyn Dear of  the Touching Hearts program.

Although many have donated, the Touching Hearts were still short today on the amount needed for shipping.

If you'd like to donate to the adopt a soldier program or donate goods,  the Touching Hearts are a part of the Church of the Living God in Traverse City (231)947-7645.
