HARBOR SPRINGS -- The rain didn't stop hundreds of people from hitting the slopes Saturday, celebrating "opening day" at Boyne Highlands in Harbor Springs.

This December 3rd opening day, marks the fourth straight year that Boyne Highlands has been the first northern Michigan resort to open for skiing and snowboarding.

The resort's Heather Trail will be open for guests both Saturday and Sunday from 9 :00am to 4:30pm.

Boyne Highlands President Brad Keen says, "We've had steep challenges this season. Temperatures have been higher than we liked to see, but we took advantage of every minute of snowmaking to be able to open this terrain for our guests.  There's been a lot of interest and excitement to start the season and we look forward to welcoming skiers and snowboarders back to the slopes."

The resort will shut down on Monday to resume snowmaking.  They anticipate reopening for the season on Wednesday, December 7th at noon.
