BOYNE CITY -- The Boyne City community will gather to remember a soldier killed while serving in Afghanistan.

U.S. Army Pvt. Jack Diener will be remembered Tuesday evening at a candlelight vigil in Boyne City. Kathy Sutton, a family friend is organizing the event.  It will  take place at  7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.

20-year-old Diener was killed in combat while serving in Afghanistan on November 21st.

Stone Funeral home says on its website that a celebration of Jack's life is also planned for Saturday, December 10th at 11am at the Boyne City High School.  Diener was a 2009 graduate of Boyne City High School.

He was stationed at Fort Drum, NY.  New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered flags in his state flown at half-staff Tuesday in honor of  Diener.
