A statewide program is giving Michigan hunters a chance to donate unwanted deer to help fight hunger.
It’s called the Sportsmen Against Hunger Program which will take the deer at no cost to hunters. The meat then is given to a local food pantry, Salvation Army or other agencies supporting the needy.
Sportsmen Against Hunger was started in 1991 and has helped donate thousands of pounds of venison and other game to people in need.
