Kalkaska raises funds for people with needs within the community

KALKASKA -- Kalkaska Area Interfaith Resources or K.A.I.R is decking the halls of the Northland Plaza in Kalkaska this week at their Festival Of Trees.

Marilyn Covill has worked with K.A.I. R for over ten years, "This is our fifteenth year and we have this year twenty eight decorated trees and some of them were decorated by businesses and others by the committee. Trees are raffled and we have a few that are up for silent auction. Plus, we have a lot of silent auction items and raffle items for people."

All of the proceeds will benefit the less fortunate in the Kalkaska area.

"Last year we raised over thirty thousand dollars and the money this year we hope will be more because the need is greater. And the money all goes to the food pantry and helping people with gas cards or medical expenses or heat, or lights or any of the needs that they might have." Said Covil.

K.A.I.R's Festival of Trees will be going on now through November 20th with Santa arriving at 12pm on Sunday afternoon for pictures.

Until then, everyday kids can write their very own letters to Santa and have him answer it before Christmas
