BENZIE COUNTY -- It’s a frightening situation for any parent -- the school bus drops your young child off at a house where no one is home.
This is exactly what happened to a working mother from Benzie County and now she's speaking out, sharing the alarming ordeal.
7&4’s Kate Fox has sat down with the woman and brings us more on this story new at 11.
Carrie Sanford says as a working mother, she had made arrangements with Crystal Lake Elementary School to ensure that her 6 year-old got on the right bus after school.
But last Friday, communications broke down and a series of events left her youngster alone, without any supervision.
Sanford explains how she felt when she found out her little boy was locked out of the house and standing alone on the side of the road, “My heart was racing. We live in a pretty busy intersection and there’s lots of traffic. There are lots of people we don't know. Every worst possible scenario ran through my mind…that he could have wandered away and got lost or kidnapped, even hit by car. It was scary..."
Sanford is frustrated that the school has no policy in place to prevent situations like this from happening.
