TRAVERSE CITY (AP) -- Authorities say the business manager at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Grand Traverse County stole about $73,000 from the church.

The Sheriff says that prosecutors issued a warrant for Carolyn Lavon Burns last week on a charge of embezzlement.

A telephone listing for Burns was disconnected.

According to a report written by a detective with the county sheriff's department, Burns began stealing from the Blair Township church after being promoted from part-time receptionist to business manager in 2009.

The report says she wrote checks to herself and her husband's company from church funds, stole from the collection plate and used church credit cards to buy groceries and other household goods.

The church pastor, Rev. Don Geyman, says it's a time of prayer for everyone involved.
