The Prosecutor's office and Sheriff's Department are targeted in the report.
KALKASKA -- Kalkaska County Commissioners are taking a closer look at possible cuts to save the budget, which for 2012 has a shortfall of more than a quarter-million-dollars.
Results of an operations study are highlighting where those cuts should come from. The report recommends two specific areas: the Prosecutor's office and the Sheriff's road patrol operations.
The report states both areas are over-funded when compared to five counties of similar size. It also states 61.8% of the 2011 General Fund budget is taken up by the two departments.
The total 2011 Kalkaska County budget is about $6.9 million. The report states the Sheriff's Office spends $2.5 million, or 37% of the total County budget.
