HARBOR SPRINGS, MI -- The economy has halted the building of the Hotel Janelle in Harbor Springs, but city commissioners showed their faith in the project at its last meeting.
The council voted to extend the submitted project plans and permits for two years.
Right now, the lot has been transformed into a temporary downtown park.
The developer and owner, Robert Mossburg, signed the extension.
"The project was very well supported by the community and the city council felt it was going to be a good asset to the community, so they wanted to give the developers more time and hopefully see this project go forward," said city manager Tom Richards.
The hotel will be condominiums owned by private families and rented out to visitors when they aren't being used.
The permits were initially granted in 2008 and this is the third time the city has agreed to an extension for the development.
