Dozens plan to rally in front of Chase Bank
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Occupy Wall Street protests that are sweeping across the country are now coming to Traverse City.
More than 200 people are expected to show up outside of Chase Bank in downtown Traverse City Saturday afternoon to have their voices heard.
Laurie Olson is one of dozens who plans to rally, she says she works several part-time jobs to make ends meet.
Olson says, "It is really hard when you don't know where your next dollar is going to come from."
Chairman of the Grand Traverse County Republican Party, David Barr, says he does not think the Occupy Traverse City protest is going to make a difference. He says people should realize that we need large companies to do well.
Barr says, "When you are sitting at home and you look at your 401K and you say boy my 401K did really well, look at the companies associated with that 401K. Also, I've never worked for a poor person before, I'm not saying every employer is wealthy beyond belief, but but when you go to work and get a paycheck that money has to come from somewhere and its not coming from a protestor on Wall Street."
The Traverse City Police are aware of the protest planned for Saturday, but they don't plan to bring in extra patrol officers.
