KALKASKA -- Homeownership will be one step closer for a Kalkaska County family when Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on a new build.

The community is invited to the celebration as the construction of the home begins at 209 Arbor Street in Kalkaska at 5:30 pm Thursday.  The Habitat home will be a green build, which will help the family keep energy costs down.

Fundraising for the project was already kicked off with the help of area businesses and the community.  A dinner and auction was held in May to help raise enough money to get the home started.

Volunteers are invited to join in on the project Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 9 am-3 pm, starting October 25.  People of all skill levels are needed. Some training will take place on site. To learn more about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity click here.
