TRAVERSE CITY -- Several area high school marching bands wrapped up a recent performance with a big surprise.

A Traverse City company, OneUpWeb donated $1,000 to each of the 18 bands at the event Monday night at Thirlby Field.  The money will support the schools art and music programs.

"There were kids out there last night that have worked hard all season long, they don't have matching shoes or they have old uniforms or not great instruments and so my goal was to give the band directors the money and let them use it where they see fit but it had to go toward the marching band," explained Lisa Wehr, CEO of OneUpWeb.

More than a thousand students took part in Monday's marching band competition.
