GRAND TRAVERSE CO. -- UpNorthLive's Facebook fans voted to hear more about fall events to get children interested in the nature around them.
The Grand Traverse Conservation District has many events and public education programs throughout the year. The classes are created in a way to foster the exploration, appreciation and conservation of the natural world for people of all ages.
There's a lot to explore through the GT Conservation District in October. The fun wraps up with the annual Nature Spooktacular which is an educational kick-off to Halloween.

Whoo Whoo Wants to Learn about Owls?
Saturday, Oct. 15 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Children & Adults
Dive into the world of one of Northern Michigan's largest raptors - owls! Particpate in hands-on activities with an environmental educator as you explore what owls eat, where they live and more. $5 suggested donation.
Peepers-Shake 'Dem Bones
Tuesday, Oct. 18 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Preschoolers (ages 3-5) & Parents
Explore seasonal nature themes which includes indoor and outdoor fun.

Rafting and Hiking in the Grand Canyon with Grand Traverse Hiking Club
Tuesday, Oct. 18 7-8:30 p.m.
Teens & Adults
Join the GT Hiking Club as they share stories about rafting on the Colorado River and taking hikes up the side canyons.
Looking Beyond the Landscape
Wednesday, Oct. 19 5-7 p.m.
Teens & Adults
Hear the results of this summers surveys on invasive species. You will also get the latest updates on the management efforts and give your input on new tools the Invasive Species Network will be developing this winter.
Fall Color Hike
Saturday, Oct. 22 10-11 a.m.
All ages
Take a hike at the Boardman River Nature Center to leaf peep! Explore the trails of the 500 acre Natural Education Reserve and learn about why leaves change color and what trees have the most vibrant colors. $5 suggested donation.
Peepers - Jolly Pumpkins
Tuesday, Oct. 25 10-11:30 a.m.
Preschoolers (ages 3-5) & Parents
Learn all about the pumpkins that make the holiday fun!
Nature Spooktacular!
Wednesday, Oct. 26 6-8 p.m.
All Ages
Get in on the evening of ghoulish games and creepy crawly activities. Fun nature crafts and even take a walk on a haunted trail. Wear your costume and prepare to have a "spooktacular" time.
$5 suggested donation
