Northern Michigan spas band together to help support Habitat for Humanity

TRAVERSE CITY -- UpNorthLive's Facebook fans voted to hear more about a fundraiser where you can give the gift of relaxation to yourself, while raising money for an area non-profit.

Nine northern Michigan spas are banding together to support Habitat for Humanity's Northern Michigan Chapters.

From Oct. 3 through Oct. 9, participating spas will donate $10 to their local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.  Guests will also have the opportunity to match the donation if they want as well.

Mary Margaret Hornbaker, Executive Director for Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity,  says the fundraising effort demonstrates how local businesses give back to the communities they serve.

"The love and compassion that Northern Michigan Spa's have for family and community continues to grow.  Through their continued support we will touch those who need a 'hand up, not a hand out' and with that grow our community with loving hearts and strong hands."

The following spas are taking part in the fundraiser:

Crystal Spa at Crystal Mountain Resort, Thompsonville

Lilac Tree Spa at Lilac Tree Suites and Chippewa Hotel, Mackinac Island

Oasis Salon and Spa at Riverwalk Place, Gladwin

Solace Spa at Boyne Mountain, Boyne Falls

Spa Amira at The Homestead Resort, Glen Arbor

Spa Grand Traverse at The Grand Traverse Resort, Traverse City

The Spa at Shanty Creek Resorts, Bellaire

The Spa at The Inn at Bay Harbor, Bay Harbor

Treetops Spa at Treetops Resort, Gaylord

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build decent, affordable housing.  The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.  Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.  Families invest hundreds of hours of labor into building their homes and the homes of others.  Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund, which is used to build more homes.
