TRAVERSE CITY (AP) -- Many northern Michigan classrooms will be tuning in to listen to President Obama's back-to-school message Wednesday.

The President plans to tell students that in these tough times, America needs their passion and ideas. The White House plans to release the text of the president's message early to defuse any potential charges that President Obama would give a political speech to the nation's school children.

Two years ago, some conservatives accused the President of bringing politics into the classroom with a similar back-to-school speech.

President Obama plans to tell students Wednesday that they are the country's future and that, in his words, "whether we fall behind or race ahead in the coming years is up to you."

Obama is scheduled to speak at Benjamin Banneker Academic High School in Washington.  The President spoke about strengthening the education system in this country during his weekly address Saturday.  The address can be viewed by clicking here.

The speech will be live streamed into many classrooms across the area, including Traverse City Area Public Schools.  The speech begins at 1:30 PM.
