Minnesota wildfire could be smelled in northern Michigan
A smell of smoke filled the northern Michigan air today causing many concerned residents to call 911.
What they smelled is actually hundreds of miles away.
A 60,000 acre wildfire has been growing rapidly in Ely, Minnesota over the past few days. Northwest winds in the wake of a cold front are pushing the plume of smoke into the area.
Phones in Grand Traverse County Dispatch were ringing off the hook Tuesday. Residents were calling, worried when they woke up to the smell of smoke.
Sam's Club in Traverse City actually evacuated for fear the roof was on fire.
