LANSING (AP) -- The concern surrounding Asian carp will be the focus of a conference in Lansing Tuesday.
Government officials and scientists will update representative of Michigan's fishing and tourism industries on the fight against the invasive speices.
The conference is sponsored by the Michigan United Conservation Clubs, the Michigan Boating Industries Association and the Michigan Lodging and Tourism Association.
Keynote speaker will be John Goss, the Asian carp director for the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Also scheduled to give briefings are state Attorney General Bill Schuette and Patricia Birkholz, director of Michigan's Office of the GreatLakes.
Michigan is among five states suing the federal government and Chicago officials over their operation of shipping locks and a canal that could provide a pathway to Lake Michigan for Asian carp, which some believe could starve out native Great Lakes fish.
