NORTHPORT -- Dozens of people walked through Northport Saturday morning to raise money to help fight breast cancer.
It's called the Miles for Mammograms Walk and is sponsored by the Zonta Club of Leelanau County.
The event was started in honor of Alice Busby, former Zonta member who lost her battle to cancer in 1994. The money raised supports health services and screenings for low income and uninsured people in Leelanau County. Organizer Kathie Wing says this is an important event -- especially with the economy being down right now.
The money raised is distributed through the Munson Healthcare Regional Foundation. It is also a major source of funding for the Leelanau Memorial Health Center's Free Health Day.
