Red Cross union employees plan strike
TRAVERSE CITY -- Hundreds of Red Cross nurses and blood collection workers say they're going to strike over unfair labor practices just days before the year's largest blood drive.
Strikers took to the picket lines last summer in Petoskey over bargaining issues, the scene could be very similar next Wednesday if a contract isn't negotiated.
One thousand union employees in six states, including Michigan, are refusing a contract that pays 90% of premiums. They say the organization could find a better healthcare plan for employees.
The strike would not impact disaster services here at home or nationally, but it could disrupt planned 9/11 blood drives.
