GAYLORD, MI -- Parking in Downtown Gaylord is no longer going to cost you as long as you follow the rules.

The city will remove the 83 parking meters from downtown and allow people to park for free for three hours.

City Manager Joe Duff says this move will take about $10,000 away from the money and fines they made from the meters a year, but they say, it's worth it.

"We think that'll be more friendly to the public, shoppers that come into our community, it removes the need for continued maintenance on the meters, and we feel it's a win situation for our businesses as well as the city," said Duff.

The meters will be removed within the next couple of weeks and signs will be put up telling people of the new three hour limit.
