$1 Million will help clean-up beaches

SUTTONS BAY -- Nearly $1 million dollars in federal grant funding is going towards keeping family beaches in Suttons Bay clean.

The US Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $2.2 million dollar grant to the Watershed Center of Grand Traverse Bay. $987,000 of that funding will go towards installing a new drainage system in Suttons Bay.

When the project is complete, runoff water will be filtered in the drain before it enters the village's two most popular swimming beaches.

The project is another part of the Grand Vision Plan. Construction will begin next spring and is set to end in 2013.
