TRAVERSE CITY -- The Traverse City Police Department has made an arrest in a string of downtown business break-ins.
The suspect, a 20-year-old Traverse City resident, had entered the businesses by breaking out glass in either doors or windows and entering the premises looking for and taking cash.
A second suspect, a 21-year-old Traverse City resident has been identified and interviewed. A warrant request for him has been submitted to the Grand Traverse County Prosecutor’s Office.
Traverse City Police Department detectives found the suspects as they were conducting surveillance in the area, on 14th Street in the Traverse City.
Both suspects were brought back to the Traverse City Police Department, where they confessed to their roles in the string of Burglaries.
The businesses that they admitted to entering were the: Subway Store on West 14th Street, the Church of the Nazarine on Division Street, The River Concession on East Parkway, and the Trinity Lutheran Church on South Maple.
The Traverse City Police continues to investigate other Burglaries that have occurred in recent days to determine if they are connected.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned later today, Thursday August 18, 2011 in 86th District Court on the charges.
