TRAVERSE CITY, MI -- It will be at least a month or maybe longer until tower work at Cherry Capital Airport begins again.
That is because Congress recessed Tuesday without dealing with a funding issue that caused a partial shutdown of the Federal Aviation Administration.
Work on the $12-million tower project at airport was stopped on July 25th idling some 200 area construction workers. Airport Director Kevin Klein told us Wednesday the project was ahead of schedule before the work stoppage last month.
President Obama is urging congress to come back from its August recess and deal with the situation.
Nationwide, this shutdown has put some 4,000 FAA employees out of work.
