MACKINAC CO. -- More than 50 area law enforcement officers are attending training in Mackinac County.
The three day training seminar on drug interdiction is being held through Wednesday. It's being conducted by the Rural Policing Institute (RPI) a section of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). RPI is an organization dedicated to assisting rural law enforcement agencies in their training needs.
The tuition free training is being conducted to provide area law enforcement agencies with the most current information regarding drug interdiction strategies. The class is designed to improve officers’ abilities to recognize and investigate drug related crimes, with an emphasis on vehicle interdiction techniques. The training includes topics covering Drug ID and Safety, Officer Safety, Patrol Procedures, Local Trends and Issues, and Hidden Compartments among several other topics.
Several instructors from around the country are conducting the training. The law enforcement officers are considered the leading experts in the Country regarding drug trafficking.
The training is being held at the Kewadin Shores Casino in St. Ignace.
