GRAYLING, MI -- In Grayling, time trials finished up today as canoeists prepare for the 120 mile sprint race down the AuSable River.
The race begins Saturday night at nine with 92 teams dashing down the Grayling streets with their canoes and putting them in the water for the race to Oscoda.
This is the 64th year of the annual race and organizers say the field is strong and the field is set, led by last year's winner Andrew Triebold and Steve Lajoie.
"The water is a little lower than it has been this year, you probably have to get below Wakeley Bridge before you get some water, but you know, there's a lot of good teams, you know, they're the champs, they've got a lot of respect, but there's a lot of teams that are hungry," said Phil Weiler of the canoe marathon.
The 92 teams participating sets the AuSable Canoe Marathon record.
In fact this year, they had to span the time trials over two days.
