TRAVERSE CITY -- A former school employee in Traverse City was sentenced for stealing from a second grade classroom.

Jason cook was charged with larceny from a building.  Surveillance video showed Cook stealing change from a donation jar in the classroom at Eastern Elementary earlier this year.  Police say he stole money four different times totaling about $500.

Students were raising money to support "Pennies for Patches", a campaign that provides stuffed teddy bears to children of military families.

Cook will spend 4 months in jail and 18 months on probation for the crime.  The judge also ordered him to pay $1,150 in restitution.
