Man stuck on island for three days
NORTH FOX ISLAND -- The search for a stranded 60 year old man on North Fox Island just north of Leelanau County in Lake Michigan has ended successfully.
Coast Guard officials who found the man Thursday night believe he was trapped on the island for three days after getting caught in the same storm that disrupted the Chicago to Mackinac sailboat race and killed two people early Monday.
Officials believe he kayaked to the island on Monday and when the weather turned bad he chose to stay put.
A US Coast Guard helicopter crew from Air Station Traverse City found the man on the island after a several hour long search.
He was found sunburned and possibly dehydrated. He was later transported to Traverse City for a full medical evaluation.
