TRAVERSE CITY -- Crews are on scene of an apartment fire in Traverse City.

The fire sparked around 3:30 a.m. at the Alpine Apartments just off of Munson Avenue.  Several buildings have been evacuated.

One building was destroyed.  A second building was damaged by smoke.  The American Red Cross is helping families find a place to stay.

Officials are still investigating the cause but residents believe it may have started by a lightning strike.
