TRAVERSE CITY -- When you think about the United Way of Northwest Michigan you might think about the fact that they raise money, but their purpose is to raise that money for area non-profits.  One way the United Way does that is through grants.

In fact, executive director of the United Way of Northwest Michigan, Steve Wade says the organization provided 38 grants to area non-profits.  Wade says 17 of the programs had not been funded by the United Way in the past.

Plus, the funding addressed a wide range of needs including: health care, housing, food, youth programs and financial assistance.
