An Amber Alert was issued last week for 4-month-old Katherine "Kate" Phillips
LUDINGTON -- It's been one week since 4-month old baby Kate Phillips went missing from her Ludington home. Now, her mother has taken her search for answers to jail.
"He's trying to pretend like its not there. He wants normalcy," said Ariel Courtland when asked about her talks with Sean Phillips at the Jail. He has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and child enticement in Kate's disappearance.
So far Sean Phillips has not given Courtland any information about her missing 4-month-old daughter, expect she says he told her that the child is not dead.
"The only thing I got out of him was that she is alive. Sunday he wouldn't say much. He wanted to talk, but not about Kate. As a parent it's hard to do because that's all I want to know is about Kate," said Courtland.
This all began last Wednesday, police say Phillips and Courtland were arguing at her apartment when he took off with the infant. Police found Phillips at his Scottville home without the baby.
Courtland said, "I don't think Sean meant for this to go the way it did. I don't think he meant for it to go this far."
Wednesday night the Ludington Daily News told 7&4 News that police issued search warrants asking for all classified sections dealing with adoption. Courtland neither confirmed or denied if she ever talked about putting baby Kate up for adoption.
As for the police search, it picked back up on U.S. 31 and Millerton Road near the suspects home. They've been searching this area for several days. So far investigators found the baby's clothing. They say what had been reported as droplets of blood in a wooded area turned out to be bird feces. That was determined by a Michigan State Police Crime Lab test.
Courtland also spoke Tuesday about how she broke the news of the situation to her older child Haley.
"Daddy is in timeout cause he lost Kate and he can't remember where he put her at so he's in time out until he can remember where he put Kate," said Courtland.
Investigators are also looking for a cell phone belonging to Courtland which they say was left in Sean Phillips car the day Phillips drove off with Kate. It is black with a light purple trim ring around the display window.
If you have any information about the phone please call the Ludington police.
