LEELANAU COUNTY, MI -- We're all aware that the beaches in Northern Michigan are some of the most beautiful in the entire country.
Now, the beach at Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes is about to get a little more crowded.
Dr. Beach, otherwise known as Professor Stephen Leatherman from Florida International University, has just named the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore the best beach on the Great Lakes.
Sleeping Bear beat out close to 30 other competitors which submitted photos and sand samples.
Dr. Beach chose the spot because of its water clarity and striking sand formations.
Number two on the list was Presque Isle State Park in Erie, PA; followed by Sand Point Beach, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Lake Superior in the U.P.; fourth was Bayfield Main Beach in Ontario, Canada; and finally, Oak Street Beach in Chicago.
