TRAVERSE CITY -- The recent surge of out-of-state license plates in the area may prove Traverse City's advertising efforts are paying off.

Traverse City's Visitors Bureau says it's a direct result of it's year long, nationwide, multimedia advertising push.

In addition to print ads and billboards, there are also TV spots playing in all 50 states.

While the target states are Illinois, Ohio and Indiana, the Traverse City Visitors Bureau says the new Traverse City Pure Michigan Commercial has increased website hits from new states by 20%.

Traverse City Visitors Bureau Vice President of Marketing and Sales Jack Schripsema says, "Kentucky has really come on the radar, we see a lot more people from Kentucky, Pennsylvania, the number of inquiries is unbelievable. Some of the other new areas are New York which has increased by 400 fold in the last month in terms of interest. We’ve actually also increased our inquiries from places like Alaska, Oregon and Utah."

Schripsema says the national Traverse City commercial spot still has 2 more weeks of airtime and expects the interest to spike even higher.
