TRAVERSE CITY -- More details are being released on the murder of Carly Lewis more than three weeks after her death.

The preliminary hearing for the teenager accused of killing her took place Monday.  Robert Jensen Schwander, 17, is charged with Carly's  murder.   A forensic pathologist testified that Carly was stabbed ten times.  A 4.5 inch deep stab wound to the upper chest and neck area is what the pathologist said killed her.

Dr. Cole says, "I was told there was a suspected murder weapon, scissors or part of scissors. I have not had an opportunity to examine that instrument, but in general, it appears these wounds could have been made by sharp end of scissors driven into her body."

Traverse City Police Sergeant Joe McCarthy told the court that Schwander and Lewis got in an argument, then a physical fight before her death.

Sgt. McCarthy says, "He and Miss Lewis became involved in altercation. The defendent indicated he was initially assulted by Miss Lewis and responded by punching her, knocking her to the ground."

Carly's body was found June 14 buried in a sand pile on property owned by the Traverse City Department of Public Works.  Investigators say Schwander killed her in a vacant building where he was living and moved her body to the sand pile.

Schwander is being held without bond.
