TRAVERSE CITY -- Two Traverse City area beaches are under a health alert following the heavy rainfall.

The Grand Travers County Health Department issued the warning Thursday after its sampling showed elevated levels of E.coli.

Bryant Park and East Bay Park both are at a level 2, which means contact above the waist is not advised.  E.coli levels meet standards for wading, fishing and boating.

Bryant Park's E.coli count is 330 (per 100 ml).  East Bay Park is 795.  If the levels are 1000 or more no body contact is advised.  Beach samples are collected twice a week.  E.coli levels are more apt to increase after a storm.
