TRAVERSE CITY -- More than 500 kids grabbed their fishing rods, reels and bait for a day of free fishing in Traverse City.

Northwestern Michigan College hosted the annual Kids' Free Fishing Day Saturday afternoon. More than 2,000 rainbow trout, 10 inches or longer, were stocked for the event.

Volunteers offered the young anglers fishing instructions and how to properly clean your fish.

Folks say it was a perfect chance to spend the day with the family.
