LANSING (AP) -- 7&4's Facebook fans voted to hear more about the changing district lines for the state's lawmakers.

Detailed maps have been released on the Proposed Changes to Congressional, State Senate and House Districts.

The redistricting requirement follows the release of the 2010 census and the population shifts and losses in Michigan. Michigan is losing a congressional seat after seeing its population decline.

Under the current proposal many northern Michigan counties would end up with new representatives.

Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, and Manistee Counties and part of Mason County would all move into the 1st District, making Dan Benishek their Congressman.  Wexford County would move into the 4th District, represented by Dave Camp.

The Senior Director of Government Relations for the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce says voters need to pay attention to all this.

"There are changes coming into who represents you either in Washington or who represents you in Lansing and so you're going to need to know who you are voting for and where you're voting for that person in terms of what district you're a part of as these changes take place," explained Doug Deyoung.

Lawmakers have until Nov. 1 to pass redistricting laws. GOP lawmakers say they want to get the job done by July 1 and have scheduled the House and Senate to take up redistricting bills next week in committee.
