TRAVERSE CITY -- Our Facebook fans voted to learn more about a community book club which is turning the page of a special milestone.

Traverse City READS, a "One Book, One Community" literacy initiative is celebrating its tenth year.  The book selected for the community to read for 2011 is "Tender at the Bone: Growing up at the Table" by Ruth Reichl.

TC READS has designated April thru October as reading months.  The event will culminate with an appearance by author, Ruth Reichl at the City Opera House on October 19.

Reichl is known for her work as food critic for the New York Times and editor of Gourmet Magazine. She was born and raised in New York City, studied at the University of Michigan and University of California/Berkeley. The Seattle Times has described Reichl as “one of the most influential figures in the food world”.

Ruth Bay, President of Friends of Traverse Area District Library, said choosing a book is a group effort based on feedback.  It's also important to choose a book that will be enjoyed by a broad number of people of different ages.  The overall goal is to simply get the community to enjoy a good book together.

"To bring the community together in a reading venture and then discussion about whatever the book is about.  This one we thought would be great because of the culinary background plus its just really humorous," explained Bay.
