Community honors fallen soldier
HARRISON -- Dozens lined the streets of a Clare County community today to pay their respects as a fallen soldier comes home.
Army Private First Class Robert Friese was killed last month when insurgents attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade.
Pfc. Friese graduated from Harrison Schools in 2008. The 21-year old was well loved in the tight nit community. As his body arrived home, community members stood quietly with flags in hand as their hometown hero passed.
Harrison Resident Steve Brown says, "It was a moment of patriotic silence, but I'm happy this little community put together this event for him. He deserved it."
Harrison Resident Linda Bailey says, "It made me cry, emotional even though I didn't know the young man personally."
Those that did know him like Persian Gulf War veteran Shelly Hardy say he was well respected, lending a hand to anyone in need. Although he's gone, he's a hero in the hearts of everyone in this community and will never be forgotten.
Shelly Hardy says, "He'll be missed tremendously not only by his friends but his family and fiancé and many other people."
